We operate a distributed headquarters, with leaders and employees spread across four time zones and five hubs. That’s why we’ve codified “Play as a team to win the world” as one of our core values. We see effective remote collaboration as our competitive advantage.
Operating from different locations also means we live and breathe the same challenges as our users every single day. We deeply understand both the difficulties and rewards of remote collaboration. And we’ve channeled those learnings into creating the best platform to bring individuals from across teams and companies into one shared “room,” where they can brainstorm, strategize, design, plan, and watch their ideas come to life – together.
That’s why I’m incredibly grateful and excited to announce our $50 million Series B funding, led by ICONIQ and with participation with our existing investor Accel. This funding will allow us to continue enabling distributed teams, remote teams – and teams newly adjusting to being remote – to be as productive and creative as they would be in the same room.
Creating a space for collaboration and co-creation
Miro has always been a core tool used by distributed teams. But over the past weeks and months, the need for an online collaborative whiteboard platform to supplement the in-office whiteboard has never been as clear.
The demand for Miro may have accelerated within the current situation when more teams are suddenly remote, but our momentum has been steadily growing, as more companies embrace distributed work as a competitive advantage.
Our users and customers see Miro as a critical part of their collaboration and communication tech stack, whether they’re co-located, distributed, or fully remote. Teams rely on Miro to do so many crucial activities: from running brainstorming sessions and workshops to planning projects, from designing new products and services to facilitating agile ceremonies.
We’re thankful to all of the consultants, product managers, designers, developers, coaches, and everyone else who share their stories in our community and user groups, and regularly give us so many new ideas, feedback, and inspiration.
Because we’re addressing a real need in the market, Miro is profitable and growing, with over 5 million users and 20,000 paying customers, including 80% of the Fortune 100. Some of the companies using Miro include Dell, Cisco, Salesforce, PwC, and EA, with multiple enterprises deploying Miro for thousands of internal users.
We’re thrilled to partner with ICONIQ, which has funded amazing companies including Gitlab, InVision, Intercom, Lucid, Datadog, Snowflake, and Adyen. We’re also welcoming some new angel investors: Olivier Pomel, CEO/Founder of Datadog; Bob Muglia, former CEO of Snowflake; Bradley Horowitz, VP of Product at Google; Irene Au of Khosla Ventures and formerly of Google and Yahoo.
With this new funding, we’ll continue to invest in Miro as a platform that supports team collaboration in all ways. We’ll also scale our go-to-market teams, and continue to release new products and features that our users request. Here’s a peek into what we’re working on:
- CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT OF PRODUCT PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY to satisfy the growing demand for real-time and asynchronous visual collaboration. Our goal is to enable teams to collaborate as if everyone’s in the same room, so performance is key for smooth work.
- WORKSHOPS AND ONLINE MEETINGS. We’ve been seeing more collaborative meetings like brainstorming sessions, design sprints, and workshops move online. We’re supplementing our existing templates and plugins for meetings with new facilitation features, an ability to invite guest editors, and a bunch of new helpful templates to speed up group work.
- We continue to invest in the MIRO DEVELOPERS PLATFORM. With our API, SDK and iFrame capabilities, developers can build integrations and plugins for private use as well as submit the apps to the public marketplace. Notion, Targetprocess, RemoteHQ, and others have already built public apps – and this is only the beginning.
- PLUGINS AND INTEGRATIONS. We’ll keep developing deep integrations with the most popular tools our customers use: Slack, Jira, Confluence, Zoom and more, as well as adding new plugins to the marketplace that will help you adapt Miro to your team’s use case and workflow.
- ENTERPRISE FEATURES AND A GREAT USER EXPERIENCE AT SCALE. More companies rely on Miro as a collaborative platform for entire departments and even the whole org. Security, compliance, and user management features are extremely important for admins, as well as features that add value for end-users, like advanced search.
- CREATING A SMOOTH, DELIGHTFUL EXPERIENCE. We believe every great product experience is formed by small details, not big features. That’s why we continuously work on the small yet important things that make Miro a delightful place for your team to collaborate.
